Thomas Ralph Quayle

Tom was born March 16, 1954 to Ralph Douglas Quayle and Florence Simmons Quayle in Millcreek, UT. He was the “little baby brother” to Susan, Vicki and Julie. He was full of energy and kept his big sisters on their toes.

Tom attended Skyline High School and graduated in 1972. Tom apprenticed as a house painter. He was meticulous and a perfectionist in his work, always telling us that “preparation was the key to great results.”

On October 5, 1974, Tom married his junior high sweetheart, Cathy Joan Francis. Tom and Cathy had a daughter, Selena Quayle. As their only child, she was loved fiercely. Tom and Cathy were later divorced and sadly Cathy passed away in February of 2004.

Tom was handy and could fix just about anything. A large portion of his working years were spent in warehousing at Shasta Beverages. He was a master gardener and loved to grow beautiful vegetables and fruits in his garden every year. He loved fishing, especially at the family cabin in Woodland, UT. Tom enjoyed the game of golf and loved to play a round with his dad and brother in-law. He said that “golf is a sport whose secret is to hit the ball hard, straight, and not too often.” Tom was very thoughtful and kind. He remembered many stories of his growing up years and spent time writing those stories for his posterity.

Tom was a mixture of quiet reserve plus he was friendly and outgoing. He had a quirky but great sense of humor, instilled in him from a very young age, as he was raised in a home with abundant humor and laughter. Despite his challenges with mental health and addiction, he persevered and kept moving forward, always showing gratitude for the help and care of his daughter, Selena.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Selena Quayle Proctor, her husband, Stuart Leslie, sisters Susan Quayle Hanks, Julie Quayle Bell, brother in law, Kent Bell, brother in law, Harold Lish, grandchildren Madelin Proctor, Owen Proctor (serving in the Oregon Salem mission) Hudson Proctor, & Miles Proctor.

Tom is loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and by his 102 yr old uncle, Paul Simmons. Tom is preceded in death by his loving parents, Doug and Florence Quayle, his sister, Vicki Quayle Lish, and brother in law Larry B. Hanks

We will miss you, Tom. We know you are in the loving arms of family, and you are at peace. We joyfully celebrate your beautiful human spirit.
