

He was born April 3, 1938 the son of Tom and Ameriki Gouvisis and attended West High School where he excelled in football where he earned a scholarship to Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Following junior college, he served two years in the U.S. Army in a tank unit in Germany. He often told of being in the same unit as Elvis Presley.
He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Utah while working and raising a family.
His primary employment was as real estate appraiser, working adjacent with his brother-in-law Ken Young.
Tom was an avid golfer, always dapper and frequently testing clubs to improve his game. He also enjoyed watching televised professional tournaments.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother John (Stella); a son, Phil; his first wife of 43 years, Loraine Ottosen, who died in 2006; and his second wife of 14 years, Peggy Hoblit-Zimmer, who died in 2022; and a grandson, Gabriel.
He is survived by his sister Matina (Tina) Young; daughter Nieca Bronson (Scott); and three grandchildren, Leon and Loraine Bronson and Thomas Kent.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Tom’s name can be made to a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the auspices of Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
