Vern was born in Salt Lake City on September 25, 1946, to Leslie B. Winslow and Elsie Robinson.
He grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School in 1965. Over the years, he worked for Eimco and McDonnell Douglas, eventually retiring from The Boeing Company after more than 20 years of service.
On January 26, 1979, Vern married Susan Bickmore- his partner in crime, co-pilot, and favorite sparring partner. Their marriage was full of laughter and love. Together, they recently celebrated 46 years of adventures, both big and small.
Vern loved the great outdoors. He spent many happy days fishing, hunting, and camping, and he was an enthusiastic rock hounder. He and Susan shared a love of road trips and traveled across the country in their motorhome-usually with a well-worn map, a good playlist, and a few lighthearted arguments about which way to turn next. He was also an active member of the local ski club and the Foresters.
Vern had a generous heart, especially when it came to his family. He supported his nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews in their educational journeys, always cheering them on with quiet encouragement.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Susan; his brothers, Keith and Ross; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Blaine and Gordon.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Wasatch Memorial Park.
