Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Victor David Williams, passed away suddenly at the grand age of 88 on Monday, May 15, 2023. He was the most talented, smartest man we knew. He truly grew the talents his Master gave him.
He was born, the second of seven children, to David and Cora (Wilson) Williams on March 2, 1935. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Ann Kunz Williams, his four children: Max, Alice (John) Duffy, Jerry (Susan) and Tracy Ammon (soon to be Carter (Steve); his sisters Beverly Rose, Marie Ahlstrom, Margene Pons and Genae (Bob) Oswald; 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two siblings: Roland George Williams and Lila Mae Williams Fallows, son-in- law, James V. Ammon and four brothers-in-law.
He was born in Malad Idaho, where he spent most of his childhood, except for a few years when his father found work in California. He played football in high school and was president of the Future Farmers of America. He went to Ricks college long enough to find his sweetheart, Shirley. They were married on March 31, 1955 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made their home in Rose Park and lived together there for 67 years, where he also died.
He went to beauty school at Darrell’s College of Beauty and even taught at the college for a while. He cut, combed, and styled Shirley’s hair for the past 60 years. (No wonder she looks so good!) He worked at the US Post Office for a few years, then got a job with Western Air Lines in 1959, which later became Delta Air Lines. He worked for Delta for 25 years, then retired in 1993. He also worked for Smarte Carte at the airport and helped launch that company to success. He made many adaptions to improve their machines. He was able to support two missionary sons with this job. He also started a Volkswagen repair shop called Vee Dubb Engines, Inc., his initials were VW after all.
Vic was an inventor. He has two patents to his name; one for the Quilter’s Tacker and one for his Kan-Tainer. If he needed a tool that didn’t exist, he would go to his garage and manufacture the tool he needed. He was so creative - from writing poetry or another verse to a hymn, to designing clothes or picking fabric or pairing colors for quilts. He enjoyed playing chess and was tough to beat.
He was a songbird. He sang songs to wake his kids on school mornings, or in the car to entertain on road trips. He sang lead in three different barbershop quartets and was a member of SPEBSQSA.
He felt most accomplished in his service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings throughout his life, including an 18-month mission with his wife to Utica, New York right after 9/11. He served in both the Salt Lake and Bountiful temples, and as a Bishop and member of the High Council. He had a deep, abiding love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He could always see the logic in living the gospel with all your heart, and he did. He was a masterful teacher and would eagerly share the next great thing he learned through his vigorous study. He lived by the Spirit and always said deep and heart-felt prayers. You could tell he knew he was addressing deity. He was always the first to bear his testimony on Fast Sunday. You knew that he knew what he testified of was true. He will know his Savior when he meets Him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19th at 11:00 am at Rose Park 1st Ward 760 N 1200 West (East chapel).
