Wayne Kasteler Wiscomb, age 97, passed away April 14, 2020, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wayne was born February 7, 1923, in Salt Lake City to Donald and Clara Kasteler Wiscomb. He was the fourth of seven children. Wayne was raised near Trolley Square and told stories of runaway horses pulling trolleys up 900 South in the horse-drawn trolley days.
Wayne graduated from East High School class of 1940 where he served as senior class president. During high school Wayne was a three-sport athlete competing in football, basketball, and baseball.
On June 12, 1942, he married his lifelong sweetheart, Helen Brandley, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Within a month of his marriage he began a two-year mission (1942-1944) in Texas and Louisiana. One of our favorite stories about Dad is that he missed his new bride so much that he decided to leave his mission and walk home to see his Helen. Instead, arrangements were made for Helen to come and visit Wayne in the mission field.
Wayne served his country in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. There he served as a radar engineer in the early days of radar technology. He was also an accomplished boxer for the Navy.
After his military service, he attended the University of Utah where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949. He later went on to earn his Masters Degree from the U of U in the same discipline. While in college Wayne played football for the U of U as a running back and occasional quarterback. During his college years Wayne was a member Sigma Chi Fraternity where he sang with an award-winning barber shop quartet.
After working for General Electric; Wayne returned to Salt Lake to start his own company. He was self-employed as a manufacturer’s representative. In 1982, he created the Scada Corp., a systems integration company, where he had the opportunity to work with his son and grandsons.
Wayne found joy in his family and his church. He loved to sing with his beautiful baritone voice, golf, ski, play pick-up basketball at the YMCA, and make people laugh.
Helen and Wayne were the parents of seven children. Wayne is survived by his second wife Marjorie Cannon Wiscomb and five of his children - Chrisanne Olsen (Tom), Allison Van Vranken (Keith), Bret Wiscomb (Cec), Jennifer Smith (Joe) and Amy Moth Iversen (Darrell), daughter-in-law Jeri Wiscomb, He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren.
