Wendy will be remembered for her kind heart, her nonjudgmental nature, and the genuine love she had for others. She accepted people as they were and was generous with her praise and encouragement. Wendy often told those closest to her how proud she was of them and took a sincere interest in their lives. Those who truly got to know Wendy came to love her.
Family was especially important to Wendy. She was proud to be a big sister and dearly loved her nieces and nephews. Her love and loyalty to those closest to her were remarkable. Through the challenges she experienced in life, Wendy never lost the heart of gold that was such an important part of who she was.
Wendy also had a fun-loving and playful spirit. She loved traveling, Disneyland and Disney World, haunted houses, going out to dinner—especially for Chinese food—and going to the movies. One of her treasured traditions was going out to eat and to a movie with her dad nearly every week on Tuesdays and Fridays. She also cherished time with her mother, who will especially miss Wendy’s hugs, having her at the dinner table, taking her for massages, and simply spending time together.
Those closest to Wendy will never forget her sense of humor and her unmistakable way of showing affection. Family members can still hear her greeting them in her own endearing Wendy way: “I love you, my cute little shithead!” It was playful, affectionate, and completely Wendy.
Wendy’s family finds great comfort in knowing that she is finally reunited with her beloved sister Kimberly, whom she had longed to be with for 31 years. After so many years apart, knowing the two sisters are together again brings peace in the midst of tremendous loss.
Her family will miss her hugs, her laughter, her compliments, her enthusiasm for doing something fun, and most of all, the love she had for her family. They find comfort in knowing that this goodbye is not forever thanks to the Lord and His love and mercy.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who cared for Wendy over the years and took a genuine interest in her life and well-being. We are especially grateful to those who most recently cared for Wendy at Switchpoint Canyon Rim, the care team at Valley Behavioral Health and the first responders from Layton City and the ER staff at Common Spirit Holy Cross Hospital in Layton. Their kindness, efforts and compassion will always be deeply appreciated.
Wendy is survived by her parents, Jane and Vance Chambers and Steven Knight; her siblings, Angela and Ben Wheeler, Jeffrey and Ashley Knight, Scott and Mecqae Knight, and her step-siblings; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Ty, Chuck, Emma, Ava, Lily, Lola, Jake, Joseph, Jenna, and Elizabeth “Lizzie.”
She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Kimberly; her niece, Jane; and her grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary on Thursday, October 8th at 2:00pm MST. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral service from 12:30pm – 1:45pm MST.
