Yvonne “Bonnie” Campbell Van Roosendaal, our loving mom, wife, grandma, great grandma, and friend returned peacefully to her husband, family and Heavenly Father on March 17, 2026. She was born in Eureka, Utah, to Glenn P. Campbell and Rachel M. Litchfield (Campbell), the second youngest of four daughters and one son.
At four years old, Bonnie contracted polio and endured many surgeries and treatments, spending long stretches of her childhood in the hospital. Despite these challenges, she grew into a woman known for her strength, resilience, and unwavering optimism.
While still young, her family moved to Salt Lake City, where she later graduated from West High School. She met the love of her life, Leon R. VanRoosendaal, at a church activity, and the two were married on New Year’s Eve in 1954. In 1955, she joined Leon in Germany, where he was stationed with the Army after the Korean War, and there she welcomed her first two sons. After returning to Salt Lake City, she completed their family with a daughter and another son.
Bonnie worked a couple part time jobs throughout her life, but her longest and most beloved role was serving as a lunch lady for the Granite School District. She took great joy in feeding and caring for the children she served. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church where she served faithfully in many callings over the years.
Bonnie loved traveling the world, camping, riding four wheelers, boating, and soaking up the sun. She adored her grandchildren, babysitting them often and taking great pride in supporting her children and grandchildren in every way she could. Known for her sweet tooth, she made many homemade treats that her family will always remember.
Bonnie lived a long and full life despite the lifelong challenges brought on by polio. She was never a complainer, she simply pushed through and always tried to find the good in every situation. She will be loved and missed dearly.
Bonnie is survived by her children; Sam Van Roosendaal, Michal Van Roosendaal (Sue), Karen Jensen, David Van Roosendaal (Mindy), 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon R. VanRoosendaal; her son in law, Mark Jensen; and her great grandchild, Draydon Webb.
The family will hold a private celebration of life and graveside service. In honor of Bonnie’s joyful spirit, please celebrate life on her behalf. Soak up the moments, savor the people you love, and if you can, enjoy a little sunshine while you do.
