Born in Washington, DC and later moving to Arverne, Queens, Tina's life was marked by deep family devotion, lifelong friendships, and an unwavering spirit. On the evening of her senior prom, she became engaged to the love of her life, Kenneth Woods. Their enduring partnership spanned many decades (62 years), filled with shared adventures, including camping, boating, and day trips out East. For the past 25 years Tina and Ken have spent winters in Florida with old friends and new.
In 1969, Tina and Ken relocated to Miller Place, Long Island, seeking the suburban lifestyle and excellent schools for their growing family. There, Tina embraced her role as a dedicated wife and mother. She worked various part-time jobs to help support the household, carpooled tirelessly to her children's sporting events, and maintained a busy, loving and ultra clean home.
Tina was fortunate to maintain close bonds with her childhood friends from the Rockaways, a group of women who, like her, made their children the center of their world. Known for her passionate sideline presence, she was famously ejected from dek hockey rinks more than once for vocally offending the refs. When the women’s league started, she joined a team with her friends and daughters.
For two decades, Tina and Ken loved hosting Christmas Eve gatherings for their children, friends and neighbors. Many friends would pop in before and after Midnight mass, often having to send everyone home just before sunrise, when their youngest, Brian, sleeping in front of the wood burning stove, would wake everyone up with excitement for Christmas morning.
Tina had a huge heart and love of animals. Hance, a high energy Miniature Schnauzer, was known for barking at every passerby and door knocker. At one point or another the Woods residence was home to snakes, rabbits, fish, lizards, ferrets, birds and more. Above all, Tina cherished being surrounded by family and friends. Her warmth, energy, and fierce loyalty touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the joy she brought to those around her.
Tina is survived by her devoted husband, Kenny; her four children, Cindy Wickwire (Joe) and their children Jacqueline and Michael; Geraldine Contreras (Eric) and their children Carter and Dana; Tammy Bowrosen (Dean) and their children Jake and Kevin; and Brian Woods (Sue) and their children Charlotte, Catie, and Meredith.
The family welcomes memories and stories from those whose lives Tina touched.
