Barbara M. Rovegna, 82, of Mount Sinai, New York, passed away on December 31, 2024. Born in the Bronx, New York, Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and community member whose vibrant spirit and warm heart left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Barbara dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching in the Mount Sinai School District, where she inspired countless students and colleagues. Known lovingly as "Nanny" by her grandchildren and many others, her nurturing presence was a constant source of comfort and joy.
Barbara cherished her family deeply and shared a special bond with her daughter Robin (Richard) and son Robert. She was a proud grandmother to Ashley (Josh), Heather (Jake), and Drew. Barbara also adored her niece Jennifer and nephew Craig. Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, R. Peter, with whom she built a life full of love and cherished memories.
A lifelong lover of Disney, Barbara made an annual pilgrimage to the Magic Kingdom, where her favorite ride, “It’s a Small World,” brought her endless delight. She also thrived in her community at Leisure Village, where she lived for 20 years. Barbara served as president of the theater club, treasurer of the golf club, and a dedicated board member of the Red Hats Society. Her leadership and passion brought life and laughter to every group she touched.
Barbara's life will be celebrated on Sunday, January 5, 2025, with a visitation from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764. A prayer service will take place at 7:00 PM during the visitation. A graveside service will follow on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 11:15 AM at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Ave Farmingdale, NY.
Barbara's legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will be carried on by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
