My daughter Melissa and I had several fun adventures going to visit the Melgars at there home on Long Island.
We would visit by taking the ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson and someone would pic us up there.
We visited close to 20+ years ago when Fran and Tom would be there with all 5 kids, Brianna, Danielle, Sarah,, Ryan,, and Austin from Kalamazoo Michigan. My daughter Melissa was Brianna's age, now they are 28.
We were always so very warmly welcomed by Dot and the family. We splashed in the pool and ate good food and just felt warm inside from being together and so welcomed.
Dot always looked her best, whenever I saw here, at a graduation, or other celebration. She radiated a beautiful smile and genuine interest in all her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed and we are glad to hear she did not suffer.
May she rest in peace in God's loving embrace with Austin Melgar.
God be with all of the Melgar family at this difficult time. Peace to all of you!!
That is what Dot would have wished.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Dot passing. We had just met and it was such a pleasure to get to know her and Mel. In spite of Covid, a tropical storm and an ER visit we truly had a fun time visiting this past August. I had fun chatting with Dot by the pool as we looked forward to a future visit when we could truly see New York and Long Island. Suffering the loss of a loved one is tough, when it is unexpected it is more so. Please know that our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

My heart goes out to Mel and Tom, Mike and Tod, and all of the Melgar grandchildren. Aunt Dot was a strong, vibrant woman who loved life. She was opinionated (like all the Allgeier women) and smart and funny. In recent years we spoke weekly, and in our last conversation she was upbeat and joking. I’ll miss her so much. ❤️

Sending my sincere condolences to Mr. Melgar. Also sending a big hug to all her sons she was so proud of, Tom, Mike and Todd.
Even though the years turned many pages, Mrs. Melgar, as I always called her, always took time to keep in touch. Even after moving from Long Island she reached out many times and that was so meaningful to me. I appreciated where her heart was and the sincere thoughts she exchanged with me, especially when my father passed away. She consoled me telling me she knew God had his arms wrapped around my father. It comforted me beyond words.
Mrs. Melgar- God has his arms wrapped around you now; He will hold you in his eternal love. (Kathy)
