Edward W. Connolly passed away peacefully on March 24th, with his beloved wife, Susan, by his side. Ed and Sue’s enduring love story began at a wedding reception and grew into a remarkable partnership spanning 48 years of marriage—years filled with devotion, companionship, and shared adventure.
Ed was a loving father to his son Edward J., and a cherished father-in-law to Jennifer. He took immense pride in his grandchildren—Amber Lynn, Dillon, and Susan—who brought him great joy and whom he loved deeply. He is also fondly remembered by many cousins and by his beloved cat, Sakura.
He is now reunited with those who passed before him: his son Christopher, and his siblings Patrick and Regina, all of whom he carried in his heart.
To know Ed was to know a man defined by his character. Family and friends remember him as brave, devoted, faithful, generous, honest, and selfless. He lived these qualities daily, always ready to lend a hand, offer his time, or provide support—never expecting anything in return.
Ed proudly served as a member of the FDNY before his retirement, dedicating his career to helping others. Even beyond his professional life, his commitment to service continued through his involvement with assisted living communities and religious outreach programs, including Meals on Wheels.
He had a deep love for art and was an avid reader. Ed found great joy in visiting museums around the world, often spending hours immersed in the beauty and meaning of each piece. He and Susan shared a passion for travel, creating cherished memories together in places like Spain and Rome.
In the face of personal loss, Ed’s strength and compassion shone brightly. After the untimely passing of his son Christopher, Ed lovingly raised his granddaughter Susie as his own, demonstrating the depth of his unwavering commitment to family.
Above all, Ed loved unconditionally—his wife, his children, and his grandchildren were the center of his world. His legacy is one of kindness, service, and enduring love, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
