Gregory John Schmidt

Greg was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Nicole, and a proud, loving father to his three greatest gifts — Michael, Joseph, and Mia. He also leaves behind his cherished parents, John and Sheila Schmidt; his brother, Eric Schmidt; his nephew Owen Salemi and niece Molly Salemi.

Born with a spirit for adventure, Greg lived life with passion and purpose. He found joy by the water, whether fishing, skiing, playing softball, or simply enjoying nature’s beauty. His meticulous care for his lawn reflected the pride and effort he put into everything he loved.

Greg dedicated his life to service. He was a proud Captain in the FDNY and formerly served as NYPD. His commitment to helping others began early; during his youth, Greg served as a volunteer firefighter with the East Northport Fire Department. His career was not just a job — it was a calling. Greg’s desire to protect, serve, and help others was deeply rooted in who he was. One moment that captured his true character came years ago, when Greg, on a drive home with his family, noticed a distressed young woman by the roadside. Without hesitation, he pulled over, administered CPR to her father, and saved his life. That was Greg — a true hero, on and off duty.

Greg’s greatest pride and joy were his children. He was always there — cheering them on at every event, sharing in every moment, and deeply involved in every aspect of their lives. His family was his world.

Greg also had a gift for lighting up a room. His infectious smile, booming laughter, and endless stories made him the life of every party. He wore many hats throughout his life — husband, father, son, uncle, godfather, friend, captain, and leader. In every role, he gave his whole heart. His kindness, warmth, and unwavering loyalty made a lasting impact on everyone blessed to know him.

Greg’s love was genuine, his laughter unforgettable, and his strength unmatched. His legacy of courage, compassion, and love will live on through his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

He will be missed beyond measure but never forgotten.
