She was born on December 29, 1931 in Wurzburg Germany to Arthur Weidner and Sofia (Reugemer) Weidner. Gunda married Joseph M. Kraus (D) on April 21, 1951 and emigrated from Germany in December of that year to the United States where they began their journey and married life together.
Oma will be remembered for her strength and unending endurance in maintaining an impeccable home, endlessly walking the hills of Rocky Point, preparing delicious home cooked meals seven days a week, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens with tender loving care. Many commented the yard looked like Central Park. She baked many cakes and cookies all year long. Her Christmas cookies, not to mention her cheesecake, apfel cake, fruit tarts and even her pound cake rivaled any bakery. We actually thought they were better than any bakery. She loved cooking and baking for her family especially her grandchildren and looked forward to the summers when they gathered at her home and spent those many days on Friendship beach.
Oma is predeceased by her husband Joseph (Joe) of 50 years and eldest son, Michael, and twin brother Elmar, his wife Anni, step brother Armin and step sister Crysta. She is survived by her children, Margot Heath (Greg), Rosemarie Kraus-Werner (Bill), and Robert Kraus (Kurt) and her six grandchildren Christopher Heath (Amy), Carleigh Heath-Simbeck (Conner), Stephanie Kraus-Melero (Jose), Yannick Kraus, Aline Kraus (Frans), Julian Kraus and four great grandchildren, Cecelia, Heath, Cora and Gabriel.
A funeral service will be held at St Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. NY-25A, Rocky Point, NY 11778, on Thursday, August 20th at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers donations to Good Shepherd Hospice in her memory is suggested.
