Ingrid Karla Hanrahan, 79, of Rocky Point, passed away on August 12, 2026. She was born on March 22, 1947 in Brooklyn. After graduating from Berner High School in Massapequa, she attended Queens Hospital Center School of Nursing. A woman with incredible intelligence and wit who could have succeeded in any field, she chose a life of service, pursuing a career in nursing that included decades at both Kings Park and Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital. She earned an Associate Degree from Suffolk Community College and, at age 53, a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Joseph’s College.
Ingrid met the love of her life, Michael, when they were teenagers and they married on May 31, 1969. Together, they raised five children and welcomed seven grandchildren. A life-long and deeply faithful Lutheran, she instilled the values of service, hard work, and education she held dear in her family. She loved animals and her home was never without at least one cat. Other inhabitants ranged from fish and parakeets to lizards and ducks and, later in life, two adored dogs. She was devoted to her church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran in Rocky Point, and to the Miller Place Academy Free Library, where she volunteered for nearly forty years. She loved college sports, cozy British television, decorating her home for the holidays, hosting big family meals and celebrations, showering her friends and families with gifts, telling long stories with a signature rhetorical flair, and traveling with Mike.
Ingrid was predeceased by Mike, her beloved son Ryan, and her parents, Arno and Elsie Herzog. She leaves behind her children, Tara Stagg (Jeff), Christian Hanrahan (Jennifer), Heidi Hanrahan, and Erin McNett (Eric), and grandchildren, Kelsie, Olivia, Colin, Aidan, Krista, Evan and Isla. She also leaves behind her sisters, Karin Pieper (the late Joe), Frieda Povill (Andrew), her sister-in-law Kathi Hanrahan, and brother-in-law Tim Hanrahan (Donna), many cherished nieces and nephews, and so many dear friends. We will miss her so much, but take comfort in knowing she is still with us in our hearts.
After a private cremation, the family will welcome those who wish to pay their respects to Ingrid on Monday, August 17, 2026 between the hours of 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 1001 Route 25A in Miller Place, NY 11764. A religious ceremony to celebrate Ingrid’s life will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 716 Route 25A in Rocky Point, NY 11778.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ingrid’s honor to Trinity Lutheran Church in Rocky Point.
