James William Windsor, better known as Jim or Jimmy, was an incredible man who valued family and was a proud American. Born on January 8, 1941, Jim was the second born child to Gordon and Mildred Windsor, and the loving brother to Harold and Madeline “Sis”.
Jim grew up in Brentwood in a loving home surrounded by his extended family. In 1958, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 4 years. When he returned, he started dating Rosary, who he later married in August of 1967. Together, Rosary and Jim raised two daughters, Angela and Michelle and they built a loving home in Miller Place. Jim worked at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff and an investigator. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and life member of both the Miller Place and Riverhead Fire Departments.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rosary, daughters Angela and Michelle and son-in-law Tony. Angela and Tony have three children: Gina, Nicole, and JC. Gina is married to Chris, and they are expecting their first child, Leonardo, in July. JC is engaged to Nicolette, and their wedding is in November of this year. Jim is also survived by his sister, Madeline, brother-in-law John, and sister-in-law Kathy. On Rosary’s side, Jim was blessed to have many siblings-in-law; John, Peter, Barbara, Anne, Kare, Joseph, and Susan.
Jim was a very well-respected man who rightfully earned the nickname “Hurricane Jim”. You always knew when he was around and he definitely enjoyed a good party. He was known for his iconic dance moves and loud announcements letting people know that hot dogs and hamburgers were ready to eat. He loved to joke around and tease his friends and family.
“Grandpa Jim” will certainly be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. The legacy he left behind will be cherished and remembered with love. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, May 10th, at OB Davis in Miller Place from 4pm-8pm. A memorial service will be held at Calverton National Cemetery at a later date.
Rest in peace, until we meet again. You will be remembered with love, forever.
