Jeanne Ficken, age 86, of Shoreham, passed away peacefully on September 27th, surrounded by loved ones who meant the world to her. Jeanne is now reunited with her beloved Robert, and with the siblings who passed before her: Lorraine, Susan, Janice, David and Sandra. Jeanne is survived by her children and their spouses, Russell (Kathy) and Kira (Dave), who will forever cherish her love, guidance, and devotion. She also leaves her adoring grandchildren, Samantha (Vinnie), Hailey, Grace, Lilly, Jack and Macie, and the newest addition to the family, her great-grandson, Wesley. She was especially grateful to meet Wesley, and spend time with him, which brough her immense joy. She also leaves behind her beloved brother, Donald and her many nieces and nephews. Jeanne had a special place in her heart for her animals. She will be missed by her four-legged companions: Mickey, Cooper, Luna and Tor, along with her cats, Ollie, Finnie & Loki. Jeanne’s earliest ambitions reflected her lifelong curiosity and love of learning. She dreamed of becoming a writer or studying history. She loved reading, puzzles, astronomy, paleontology and genealogy. She found comfort in soft classical, country and Christmas music. She enjoyed the songs of John Denver, Elvis and Barbra Streisand. She loved to watch Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and HGTV. Her favorite colors were blue, silver and rose. Jeanne treasured time with her family and took great joy in being present for the moments that mattered to them. She rarely missed an opportunity to celebrate the people she loved, whether it was a graduation, baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, concert, play or any special milestone. She also cherished family traditions, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving, and loved any occasion that brought everyone together. Jeanne had a wonderful sense of adventure and loved to travel. She and Bob explored destinations around the world together, but she loved most going to Disney World, Nettle’s Island and St. Thomas with her children and grandchildren. Yet, above all her interests, adventures and achievements, Jeanne considered her family her proudest accomplishment. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson were her greatest sources of happiness and pride. The moments that made her smile most were moments spent with them. Jeanne, “Nanny,” will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. She has traveled many roads, turned many pages, and filled her life with wonder. Now she is home again, reunited with Bob and those she loved who went before her, while the love she gave remains behind in the hearts of her family and friends.
