If this is the same and I am sorry if it is.  I was stationed in Fort Dix New Jersey and I served with Joe Dorio. He was a great guy and  good friend. I am so sad to hear he has passed. I was looking on line for someone else and suddenly his name showed up on my screen. We worked together and lived in the same barracks. He was fun and he would play music from our era and that remained in my mind all these years. I have thought of him often. We had a good bunch of guys and Joe was one of my favorites. 
Where ever you are it is the people who make being there memorable. He was a stand up guy and told me some of his stories being in Vietnam.

Joe was like a father to me when I was a teenager.  He would tell us stories of Vietnam and he was so proud of being a Vietnam Veteran.  He truly was an American hero to the core.  I have so many memories of him telling us jokes or yelling at us for doing dumb teenage stuff.  I have some great memories growing up visiting the Dorio house and Poppa D hanging out with us on the patio.  In the end he was still always looking out for me.  We last spoke in December and I told him I was trying to quit smoking and he cheered me on and told me I could do it, he knew I could.  I did quit like he said I would on December 31st and I have him to thank.  He will be forever missed.  I pray for his soul and for Nicole & Lorraine (Momma D).  Love you all xoxox

I'm going to really miss Joe Dorio! Our friendship grew over nearly 30-years. After working together all through the 90's at Astro Moving  & Storage, our professional lives parted but our friendship took off. 
Joe was a man's man, an American Patriot, a born leader, a devoted Husband, a no-excuses guy. He was old school as they come, a man who said what he meant and meant what he said. You could set your watch by Joe Dorio. Not only was he never, ever late, he was usually 1/2 hour early. Even if Joe wasn't the strongest man I ever met, he was certainly the toughest. As a mover, nothing could stop him from completing a job. Long days, hunger, summer heat & humidity, freezing weather, darkness, rain, or pain. He had the strength of character to focus on completing a job, quitting or whining was not an option. I remember one day in western NJ when he fell off a walkboard carrying a night-table. He was banged-up, bleeding, and bruised. We figured it was a good time to stop working and eat lunch. Joe was right back with us after lunch. Eventually, Joe was forced to retire as serious health issues restricted him more & more.  I moved Upstate, but we stayed in-touch. We continued to meet for Breakfast  over the last 20-years with a variety of our 'old' friends, Charlie, Whitey, Randy, Roger, Bill Cummins, Artie & others. Joe really looked forward to these rare get-togethers, or Mover's Breakfasts as we called them. Eventually, being there for him meant carrying an oxygen tank, but Joe didn't mind, he knew he was among friends. Joe & I talked on the phone hundreds of times over the years. I could count on just one hand the number of times I ever heard him complain. I last spoke to him about a week ago. By then, he knew he had the dreaded virus. Amazingly, there were still no complaints coming from Joe Dorio. He had every intention of beating it! That's the way we left it & that's how I'll always remember him: fearless, loyal, determined. Rest in Peace, my Friend!
