

Maria was devoted to her family and was known for her kind heart, honesty, humor, thoughtfulness, and selflessness. She shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Marco Cano, whom she met in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Marco predeceased her in 2018, and Maria now joins him once again.
Maria’s greatest joy was her family. She was the loving mother of Debbie and Matt Schwarzmuller, Angel and Nancy Cano, and Nicole Cano and Steve Marquez. She was a cherished grandmother to Sage, Niko, Angela, Stephanie, Hailey, Mia, and Juliana, and a proud great-grandmother to Noa, Ella, and Alaya.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Elisa, Rafael, Luis, and Sonia; her nieces and nephews Edith, Cesar, Alex, Nicole, Rafael Dario, Heidi, and Paola; and her cousins Tati, Miguel Angel, Rebecca, Margot, Lucho, and Maricarmen.
Maria’s heart extended far beyond those connected to her by blood. She opened her heart and the doors of her home to everyone, and those who opened their hearts to her in return became family. She loved her “children and grandchildren of the heart” Joanna, Elba Elisa, Miguel Angel, Manuel, Gustavo, Cynthia, Lorena, Danny, Carina, Miguel, Diego, Amelia, and Noelia as her own. Velky’s y Familia: Fanny, Chirolo, Jamillah, Sebastian, Zaidy, and Jeidah. They were truly blessed to have her presence and love in their lives.
Maria lived life with warmth, creativity, and joy. She loved cooking, gardening and planting, hosting elaborate parties, arts and crafts, shopping, decorating, fashion, and traveling. She had a genuine curiosity about the world and delighted in exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and embracing people from all walks of life.
Maria’s home was a place where people felt welcomed, loved, and cared for. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her ability to make others feel like family was one of her greatest gifts. Her laughter, kindness, traditions, and unconditional love will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
