Michael Joseph Barry

Michael Joseph Barry, age 83, of Sound Beach, New York passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dolores, his two sons Michael and Christopher, his daughters-in-law Miran and Diane, and his three grandchildren Samantha, Alex and Casey.

Michael was born in Queens, New York, on November 5th, 1939, and lived his entire life on Long Island. He married Dolores in November of 1959 and raised his family in Bayside, Queens, where they lived until relocating in 2016 to their beloved summer home in Sound Beach, NY, which Michael redesigned for year-round living in their retirement. As a young professional, he worked in the Aerospace industry and was passionate about flight and space exploration. He was a world traveler and continued his career in international and domestic sales until retiring in 2017.

Throughout his life, Michael enjoyed skiing, boating, travel, reading, and exploring the cuisine, culture, and history of other countries. But most of all, he loved sailing on the waters of Long Island Sound, and he was always happiest when he was sharing that experience with family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held in Michael’s honor on May 7th, 2023, in the village of Port Jefferson. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family respectfully suggests donations in his name to Save the Sound, an organization dedicated to preserving the waters that he loved so much.
