Paul Lawrence Ryan, age 88, of Miller Place, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a true sports fanatic whose passion for the game never wavered. A lifelong devotee of the Boston Red Sox, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Boston Celtics, he could often be found in front of the television cheering on his teams, or on the golf course perfecting his swing. His love for sports was only rivaled by his love for a good card game. Paul was a master at poker and blackjack, famously hosting games in his basement and even winning a poker championship during an Alaskan cruise—a memory he often fondly recalled.
He was also a man of intellect and wit, regularly challenging himself with crossword puzzles. Paul treasured traveling with his beloved wife Sandy, with Arizona holding a special place in their hearts as a favorite vacation spot.
Above all, Paul was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply cherished grandfather, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind his loving wife Sandy and their beloved children: Jimmy (Lori), Sean (Christine), Meghan (Jeffrey), and Matthew (Cherie). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Danny, Shannon, Kayleigh, Jack, James, Jordan, and Payton. He also leaves behind his dear niece Ellyn and nephews Michael, Curt, and Craig.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, with visitations from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Louis de Montfort R.C. Church, 75 New York Ave, Sound Beach, NY 11789. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3442 NY-112, Coram, NY 11727.
Paul’s warmth, humor, and competitive spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
