My Rosemarie
Anyone who knew my Rosemarie loved her; when you were with her you could always feel the love. She was a passionate person and you always knew whether she liked or disliked something. She was a giving person and she was always willing to share, or go without, so that her kids could have.

She loved her children Laura Ann, John and daughter - in law Briana very much. She hurt when they hurt and she felt good when they were happy. She was extremely proud of their successes in life; she was happy that they were independent people. They loved her back just as hard. She was Aunt Ro to Paul John, Christine and Kelly who were her nephew Paul's three children. She was so happy to have developed a close relationship with them. She was Nana Ro to nephew Michael's Sophia and her relationship with Sophia was also special. Our visits to their homes were always enjoyable. Her nephews John, Frank, Robert, Paul and Michael also loved their aunt an awful lot. Rosemarie has two sisters, Ann and Sophie. Sophie has been in heaven awhile and probably greeted Rosemarie the other day. The three sisters were as close as you can get, even though they disagreed passionately on many things.

Rosemarie was extremely proud to have been an elementary school teacher. She loved her chosen profession and she excelled at it. She worked for twenty years in the Middle Country School District and taught pre - K, kindergarten, first and third grades. She received lots of positive feedback over the years from students, parents and principals. Since she worked in the lower grades she would often receive unfiltered stories from her students. I told her that she should have kept a journal; she had the input for a huge hit!

I would have to say if there was one thing that she did not like in her life experience, it was camping. We purchased a pop - up camper many years ago and we used it for a few years. She did not like the dirt or the cramped quarters. She gave it a try because it was something that I wanted to do. However, once we were camping on the Jersey shore and were attacked by "no - see- ums" at 3 am. We had to evacuate the camper and took refuge in the campground Laundromat. When Laura Ann asked if she could crawl into the dryer to go to sleep , Rose looked at me and said "never again!" The camper was gone the next week.

Yes the cancer was always hanging over her head for the last twenty years, but Rose did not let it stop her from pushing ahead and grabbing on to life.

Boy, did we travel! For the most part we went to Europe, the U.S. and Canada. My favorite place was Ireland, but Rose loved the European river boat cruises; great scenery, places to visit, food and accommodations. We met some really nice people on our trips and we became close with one couple in particular.

In recent years, after retirement, she took up knitting. She loved knitting and was very good at it. She was a perfectionist; I saw her rip out a scarf three times until she was satisfied with it! She made scarves, hats and vests. Her work was good enough that she sold her products on consignment at local boutique shops.

Rose and I met in our senior year in high school and were married 5 years later. We moved to Long Island and raised our kids in Mt. Sinai and Miller Place. We had the normal trials and tribulations but it has been a wonderful ride. We just celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary this past January. 

I consider myself very lucky to have shared my life with Rosemarie. She was a great wife and friend; she is the love of my life. Her passing leaves a gaping hole in my heart and my life. But I know that it was her time and she is now in a better place with God and our other departed family and friends.

Just like this candle, the wonderful memories of our Rose will shine brightly in the hearts of her Baker's Dozen.  Her smile, laughter, and courage will be sorely missed by all.

Words cannot express how very sad I am to hear the news of your Rose.  She will be so missed, but her love of life will go on with the many people and children she touched.  To say Rose was a wonderful wife, mother, teacher, person is an understatement.  I'm so grateful that I was one of the fortunate people on this planet to get to know her.  I will always cherish the memory from the night Bonnie and I were at your home for dinner – not only how you both completed each other's sentences, but also each other's movements.   In my eyes you and Rose are an example of one of the rare marriages – sharing a perfect expression of a love between a man and a woman -  I thank God for that memory.
