Alice Carlson was born on May 27, 1933 in Inglewood California, she is child number 5 of 6. Alice is survived by a sister and a brother, 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Alice was an encourager, a corrector of wrong, a teacher, and a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I’m sure she’ll forgive that you all know how old she is now.
Alice married Peter Carlson right out of high school and had 6 children by the age of 35. In the 60’s she went to work to help support the family. In 1972 she and Pete divorced and she became a single mom. To support herself she got 2 more jobs. In the early 80’s she met Fred Abod and still found time for her family and to go dancing on Saturday nights. In 1997 Alice retired from AT&T and moved to Berry Creek on 20 acres (mostly steep hillside). She was excited to live in the mountains and looked forward to working her property. There were always lots of chores to be done and as she got older so did her children who also loved that she lived in the mountains close to great fishing, swimming, and recreation spots. She was able to stay in her home because her children made sure all the major chores were done. Her sons always made sure she had wood for the winter, the space around her home was clear of weeds, trees trimmed, her creek taken care of and the many more chores required to live in the mountains. Her great joy was when we would all get together to do those chores, then enjoy a meal and the company of each other. As a mother, she never interfered in her children’s lives, she would give advise, counsel then let each of us make our own way. We know her for her tenacity in getting to the answer! Whether it was child rearing in her younger years or computers later on; then along came google, you tube, and on-line shopping, what a great time to be alive! All her children were privileged to call her mom; all her friends were privileged to call her friend. She was blessed with good health and the love and support of her family. Alice will be greatly missed at family get togethers, she really was the perfect MOM! Our mom loved her church, Whispering Pines Chapel, the Berry Creek Guild, and her president, Donald Trump, and desired to live long enough to cast her vote for his second term. Anyone could watch her life and know she was a genuine person. Alice was the treasurer for the Guild and the Church, donating many hours to make sure each non-profit had bookkeeping records that were informative and up to date. Her great prayer was that Whispering Pines Chapel would grow and impact the community for her Lord Jesus Christ. She loved when all her children would sit in church with her. We know that her faith in Jesus Christ was precious to her and that she is now rejoicing in heaven with her loved ones who have gone on before. The Bear fire greatly impacted the town she loved so much. As Whispering Pines rebuilds the family has asked in lieu of flowers that a donation would be made to Whispering Pines Chapel, PO Box 88, Berry Creek, CA 95916.
