Anna Marie (Dose) Thorp, age 69, formerly of Streator, Illinois was called home to her Heavenly Father Saturday, January 9, 2021. To all who knew her, Ann was a gentle and kind soul with tremendous faith in God.
Ann was born March 18, 1951 in Spring Valley, Illinois to Albert and Kay (Stenzel) Dose. She graduated from Lostant High School in 1969. Ann earned her Licensed Practical Nursing certificate after high school and later earned her Associate in Nursing degree from Illinois Valley Community College in 1991.
Ann married Robert "Bob" Thorp in October 1974 in Streator, Illinois. She was blessed with her two sons, who she cherished and adored. She later married Mark Vissering and they shared over 10 years of marriage.
Ann was a devout Catholic and dedicated parishioner at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota. She had a passion for daily prayer, often praying the rosary. Her prayer book was always close by.
Ann spent her life in service to others. She worked in the nursing field for over 50 years. It was her life’s mission to tirelessly care for others. She retired from Heritage Manor in Streator, Illinois in 2016.
After retirement, Ann moved to Robbinsdale, Minnesota. To everyone’s dismay in Minnesota, Ann continued to root for her beloved Green Bay Packers. She loyally played Publisher’s Clearinghouse since 1978 and was “still waiting for the Prize Patrol to award her millions.”
Ann wished for everyone to know she loved her family very much. Her most cherished times were spent with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed an active and very organized lifestyle. She spent considerable time with her sister, Marge, gardening, landscaping, and basically anything Margie wanted her to do.
Ann earned many aliases throughout her life. She was “Lulu” to her aunt Marcia, “Granny Annie” to her grandchildren, “Uber Annie” to her great nieces and nephew, “Annie Banannie”, and “Ethel” to her “Lucy” (sister Marge).
Ann was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Kay Dose. She is profoundly missed by her sons, David (Jessica Spannbauer) Thorp of St. Louis Park, MN and John (Erin) Thorp of Streator, Illinois; two grandsons, Paxson and Pryor Thorp; two granddaughters, Savannah and Madilynn Thorp; her sisters, Marjorie (Darryl) Riemenschneider, Diane (Richard) Strack, Barbara (Charlie) Diss, and Virginia (Dave) Black; her brothers, Robert Dose, Thomas (Vicki) Dose, and Paul Dose; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
A memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial and Rite of Committal and Interment will be celebrated in the spring in Lostant, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring her memory by making a donation to the Anna Marie Thorp Nursing Scholarship at Illinois Valley Community College by calling (815) 224-0551.
