Born on April 25, 1927.
He proudly served in the US Army from 1945-1947, receiving a Victory medal. He loved going to church, gardening, fishing, bird watching, and whistling. Byron worked for Dan Dugan as a mechanic in Jamestown, ND before bringing his family to St. Paul, MN where he worked for Cummins Diesel until his retirement in 1989. Byron was very active at Faith Baptist Church, SpringVale Baptist, Bethany Evangelical Covenant for many years, and loved his Lord. Being a bus driver for the youth groups, teacher and sometimes a fill-in pastor. Taking the youth groups to Camp of the Woods in Dryden, Canada was one of his favorite things. His experience of feeding a bear marshmallows was a well-known story to all.
Preceded in death by wife, Vernetta Fry whom he married on June 25, 1949 and died on February 3, 1990; parents, James & Evelyn; brothers, John Robert, Ellsworth, Lawrence, Earl; and sisters, Nellie, Reba, Alice & Wilmina. Survived by wife, Beverly Sjoberg whom he married on November 9, 1991.; children, Bonnie (Alex) Chester, Jo Anna (Ron) Brausen, Darryl (Nor), Byron E.; step-children, Deb (Keith) Archer, Kathy (Edward) Sogert, Paul (Jackie) Sjoberg, Steve (Claren) Sjoberg, John (Pam) Sjoberg; sisters, Lorena Herbst, LaVerna (Art) Ebler; 22 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces & nephews.
Service on Fri., June 21, 2PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd. NE, with visitation 1 hr. prior. Interment at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to SpringVale Baptist, Bethany Evangelical Covenant or Camp of the Woods Canada.
