age 89 of Roseville, died peacefully on June 28, 2014 at Crestview Lutheran Home.
He was born on October 9, 1924, and was raised on the Iron Range, where his love of hunting and fishing began. He graduated from Virginia High School, Virginia Junior College and the University of Minnesota Duluth with a degree in Mathematics Education after serving in the US Navy during World War II. He taught math at Bemidji High School for 13 years and was elected to the Bemidji City Council before being selected as the Mathematics Consultant to the Minnesota State Department of Education where he served for over 23 years. He was a pioneer in the use of computers in classrooms and in the importance of problem solving in mathematics curriculum. David earned Masters and Specialist degrees from the University of Minnesota. While in Bemidji he met and married Joyce Ellig, a teacher of Home Economics. David was an active member of Trinity Lutheran of Lake Johanna in Arden Hills where he served in various leadership positions, was active in bible studies and served as a youth group leader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Hildur Dye, brother Maurice, and sister Barbara (Archie) Larsen. He is survived by loving wife, Joyce; daughters Ann Dyellig of St. Paul and Mary (Del) Moen of Wadena; son Paul (Louise Hose) of Dayton, Nevada; brothers James (Angie) and Joel (Shirley); sister Amy (Harvey); and granddaughters Emilie Hogan and Britta Moen.
Funeral service to be held on 11AM Thursday 7/3/14 at Trinity Lutheran of Lake Johanna, 3245 New Brighton Rd, St Paul, MN with visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Interment Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
