Denny was born on July 31, 1942 to William and Marie Wendell in St. Louis Park. He graduated from Hopkins High School and attended Hamline University where he was a three-sport Hamline Hall of Fame athlete and captain of the Football team. It was at Hamline that he met the love of his life Ruth Hastings, the football head cheerleader. Together they raised two boys.
After graduating from Hamline in the early 1960s, Denny started working in the computer industry. Denny became a consultant and was known for bringing a highly skilled team of technicians and engineers to various projects. Those teams had a reputation for completing projects before deadlines and producing innovated, high-quality technology for other companies which are still the foundation for some computing today. Just one example is the General Electric supercomputers used in MRI machines. Legend has it the computer server received it’s name from the project team that developed the technology. “Super Server 150” was the winner; the 150 denoted the amount of money the winner received. Denny was also known for recognizing people’s talents and providing opportunities for them to succeed in business.
