
Died at St. Therese Oxbow Lake, Brooklyn Park, MN on June, 20, 2015. She was 82 years of age.
Doris Ann was born on December 22, 1932, to her parents, Henry and Emma Engelke. She was born at home and was the third of six children. She went to a Country School grades 1-3, Emanuel Lutheran School grades 4-8, and Glencoe High School grades 9-12. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1952. She met Rodney Trongard at the U of M while caring for him after a basketball-related knee injury. Doris and Rodney were married June 8, 1952, and had two children, Pamela and Daniel. Doris and Rodney remained friends throughout their lives. Doris married Richard Huss in 1966, and moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1976. Doris worked as a nurse from 1965 to 1976 at Mercy and Unity Hospitals, in Coon Rapids and Fridley, MN respectively, and from 1976 to 1997 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale, AZ. Doris returned to Minnesota in April 2011 and dedicated her remaining time to family and friends locally, and at St. Therese where she lived, as well as to her church, most specifically, Ruth Circle. Doris was a patient, kind and supportive person with a passion for music, baking, crafting, and helping others even though she, herself, was not always well. She was an incredible pianist and won many contests in her younger years, and taught piano lessons to many throughout her life. Loving the Lord was first and foremost in Doris' life, closely followed by loving and supporting her family.
Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Joseph Strauss of Blaine, MN; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Patti Lynn Trongard of Golden Valley, MN; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerry and Marci Engelke and Lanny and Jenny Engelke; her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Norm Anderson; two grandsons and their wives, Ryan and Kelly Trongard and Trevor and Laura Trongard; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kayla, and James; and a loving extended family; Michael and Lora Strauss and family, Shannon and Doug Peyer and family, and Nicole Weaver and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gordon Engelke, and her husbands Rodney and Richard.
Doris' funeral will be at Family of God Lutheran Church, 8625 Zane Ave N., Brooklyn Park, MN at 11:00 a.m. on June 25, followed by interment at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, MN at 3:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris' life.
Flowers are welcomed, however donations to St. Therese, Oxbow Lake in Brooklyn Park, MN, would be much appreciated as well.
