

Ed was born October 13 1928, in Chilhowee, Missouri, on the family farm. He was raised in St. Peter, Minnesota and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1946. He furthered his education at Gustavus Adolphus College graduating in 1950 and Officer Candidate School U.S Army in 1952. Ed served during the Korean War and was later honorably discharged as a captain from the active reserve. On December 29, 1955 Ed married Beverly Jo Hanks. Ed and Bev had three girls, Dayna, Nancy and Lesley. They lived in Hinsdale, Illinois for 30 years where Ed was a Director of Distribution for Sunbeam Corporation of Chicago, retiring after 27 years. He then worked in real estate and mortgage banking. During their time in Chicago, Ed was active in civic and church programs including the council and choir.
In 1991, Ed and Bev moved to St. Peter where they spent 28 years. In St. Peter, Ed worked as a real estate appraiser and part-time with the U.S Census Bureau. Ed was a devoted member to many clubs and organizations including the Nicollet County Historical Society, Traverse des Sioux Encampment, Cox House, Parkview Manor, Chamber of Commerce, City of St. Peter Council, Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, American Legion, DAV and Tourism Committee including giving city bus tours. Ed and Bev moved to Spicer, MN in 2018. They loved traveling and were fortunate enough to visit all 50 states and more than 40 countries. Bev and Ed were married for 65 years. Bev passed away in 2021. In 2023 Ed moved to Alexandria, MN where he was active at the Senior Center and enjoyed playing bridge and repairing furniture at the Fix It Clinic, as well as meeting with his connect group at Calvary Lutheran Church.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Dayna Schaefer of Roseville and Lesley (Michael) Schmid of Alexandria; son-in-law, Michael Weinberger of Eden Prairie; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Marlene Lorsung of Alexandria.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jo(Hanks) Wetherill; daughter, Nancy Jo Weinberger; parents, Fred and Doris (Espenett) Wetherill and brother, Warren (Joyce) Wetherill.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home, Minneapolis at 1:00 pm with visitation beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis at 2:00 pm.
