Born May 10, 1914 in Tolna Bikacs, Hungary and came to Minneapolis with her mother, Mary Palffy, her brother Frank and sisters Mary and Theresa in 1921. She remembered arriving in the USA on the Queen Mary and seeing the State of Liberty in New York Harbor and what a thrill it was to see land after such a long journey. Her father, Louis Palffy, was already in Minneapolis working as a Master Miller for Ceresota Flour.
Elaine graduated from Edison High School with an aptitude for numbers and worked as a bookkeeper for several companies, retiring from Wilcox Paper Company as controller in 1979. She greatly loved animals, music and flowers.
She is survived by her loving son, Don (Gloria), adored grandsons Michael (Karen) and Stephen (Vicki), great-granddaughters Kathryn and Carolyn, niece Anna Marie Thie, devoted caregiver Cheryl Riebe, and faithful cat Ditty II.
Special thanks to Yvonne Wymer and Carlos Balderama for their care and friendship, to Dr. Holly and Nurse Shari at HCMC for their devoted service to Elaine’s comfort in her last years, and to the Hospice team that faithfully monitored and enriched Elaine’s last months.
Memorial Service on Wednesday, December 18th at 11 AM at the Kapala-Glodek Funeral Home, 230 13th Ave NE MPLS, with a viewing one hour before the service.
