Elton Petrie (84) passed away peacefully on August 19, 2021, at Park River Estates Care Center. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Chapel, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418.
Elton was born November 21, 1936, in Grand Rapids, MN to his parents, Melvin and Bessie (Marcyes) Petrie. In 1940 the family moved near Long Prairie where he grew up working on the family farm. Elton graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1953 and joined the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged after his service.
On September 30, 1961, Elton was united in marriage to Elsie Hybl. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Edwin and Eileen. Elton painted cars and auto body repairs for several years until he changed careers and became a licensed electrician. He worked as an electrician in Long Prairie before moving to Phoenix, AZ in 1988. A year later they moved back to the Twin Cities where he continued working as an electrician and retired from Northwest Airlines in 2002.
Elton and Elsie have resided in Spring Lake Park, MN since 1989. Elton enjoyed camping and traveling across the country with his family, and he and Elsie continued their travels on several cruises, with their favorite adventures in Alaska. Elton also loved fishing, deer hunting, dancing, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends, and spoiling his poodles.
Elton is survived by his loving wife: Elsie, son: Edwin Petrie (Steve Reyerson), daughter: Eileen Bloch (Dennis), grandchildren: Austin and Kylie Bloch, and brothers: Blaine Petrie (Bernice) and Lowell Petrie (Gil Leighty). Elton was preceded in death by his parents. Elton will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his witty humor.
