“I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze,
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch her until she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: ‘There! She’s gone!’
Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side,
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of her destination.
Her diminished size is in me, and not in her.
And just at the moment
when someone at my side says: ‘There! She’s gone!’
there are other eyes that are watching for her coming;
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:
‘There she comes!’” Reverend Luther F Beecher
Floye was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota and grew up in Veblen, South Dakota where she excelled in school graduating a year early from high school. She relocated to Los Angeles, CA where she married Raymond Kaiser and welcomed son Darryl Patrick to the world. She relocated to Minneapolis, MN where she met and married her husband of 31 years, John Sedio, who predeceased her Thanksgiving Day 1983. She had a flair for design; both in fashion and in home interiors. Floye was a member of gourmet club for many years and infused new methods learned with her traditional cooking to produce artful, healthy and delicious dishes.
In 2006 she relocated to Dripping Springs, Texas to be nearer her granddaughter and great grandchildren. We were so extraordinarily fortunate to have had her as a model of intelligence, strength, perseverance and drive for excellence mixed with grace, compassion, and support for the underserved.
