Jeanette Maxine Reedy Low, of Columbia Heights, MN passed away peacefully at Johanna Shores Nursing Home.
Jan, as she was known to most, was born at home on September 8, 1924 in Tipton, IA to George Ernest and Mamie Marguerite Reedy. She graduated from West Liberty High School in 1941. After graduation, she pursued teaching and earned a teaching certificate, but was not old enough to teach.
While waiting to teach, she became interested in business and accounting and enrolled in business school in Dallas, TX, finishing with a degree. Her first professional job was working for Harry Hines, a successful Dallas business man who served as a State Highway Commissioner from 1935 to 1941. She left Hines to work for Mr. McMurry who ran a contracting company. The company, under bids with the U.S. Army, worked on several camps, including Camp Swift, near Austin, and Camp Hood, near Killeen, TX. At Camp Hood, the tank training center and a prisoner of war camp were built on the dusty plains during her time there.
After WWII, Jan moved back home to Iowa, met and married Donald G. Low (divorced & deceased) and had 5 children. She built 3 houses, enjoyed gardening and a successful real estate career. Mom was fiercely independent, had a strong work ethic and was very creative. She will be missed, but we think she deserves a rest!
Jan is survived by her sons Ronald Low (Diane) of St. Anthony, MN and Raymond Low (Los Angeles, CA), and by her daughters Chris Low (Kathy Redman) of Minnetonka, MN and Cheryl Wise (Jerry) of Loretto, MN. She has 4 grandsons: James (Kristen), Philip, Daniel & Stephen (Ashley) and 3 great-grandchildren (Michael, Andrew, Evelyn). She was preceded in death by her son, Richard and her husband, Donald.
Private Funeral on Monday, 2/25. Memorial service to follow in May with an announcement.
