He was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on September 12, 1958, but spent his childhood in Duluth, where his early passion was horses. He later moved to Minneapolis and pursued several careers – from real estate and business investments to achieving virtual celebrity status as a bartender at several prominent places, including Maggio’s, Gabby’s and most recently the MSP Airport. He was one of the best at his trade. He knew everyone, and was highly regarded wherever he worked.
John put 110% into everything he did, and thrived on hard work. He was a great mentor, coach and friend. His other passion was golf, and his goal was to beat his illness and get back to what he loved – he came so close and fought so hard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elaine Ellian. He is survived by his three sisters, Karen, Robin and Sue, many nieces and nephews, and his loyal best friends, Frank and Kevin, among many others. He will be so missed by so many.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, September 20 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm with a communal Time of Sharing at 1:00 pm, at Sunset Kapala-Glodek Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd NE in Minneapolis.
