Age 92, of Mounds View died on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.
Preceded in death by parents; Paul & Agnes; and brother Burt. Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Mildred; sisters, Verna Hoy, Marilyn (Roger) Prestemon; sister-in-law, Virginia Voigt; several nieces, nephews, neighbors and longtime friends.
Kenneth served in the Civilian Conservation Corp from April 19, 1939 to September 26, 1939. He was confirmed at Spring Lake Park Lutheran Church on May 8, 1966. He then served in the US Navy from February 7, 1944 to November 7, 1946. Served as an electrician’s mate on the USS Montpelier receiving the Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation with 1 star and Asiatic Pacific with 4 stars. He worked at Sewall Gear Company for 34 years retiring in 1982. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many hours on Lake Placid near Crosby, MN. He, helped by his brother, built the lake cabin that Kenny and Mildred enjoyed for many years. In 1986 he began marquetry using wood veneers to make pictures using various veneers fitted together like a puzzle to create the scene. He won ribbons—nothing less than second place---for works entered in the Minnesota State Fair for eight years in a row up to 1995. In 1993 he won the grand prize with his marquetry entry. The Marquetry Society of America classified him as one the most talented artists in their membership. He also enjoyed knitting. He made sweaters, caps, hats, scarves and gloves.
Service will be held on Friday, December 6, 10:30AM at Johanna Shores Care Center Chapel, 3220 Lake Johanna Blvd., Arden Hills, with visitation 1 hr. prior. Interment at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis.
