Larry was born on June 20, 1929 in Minneapolis to Doris and Waldo Anderson. The family was active in the Swedish Lutheran Church and Larry cherished the memory of his confirmation. After he graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1947, he went on to study Journalism at the University of Minnesota.
After graduating with his BA in 1951, he started a varied career that always left room for work with the DFL, which included media relations planning for local visits by US Presidents. The highlight of those years was his1962 marriage to fellow DFL activist Rosemarie Selva and the arrival of their three children.
Larry became a beloved professor of Journalism at Hamline University, where is was also the Director of PR. Governor Wendell Anderson recruited him to be the Director of the Department of Public Service for the State of MN, a position he held for seven years. He went on to serve as VP of Marketing and Public Affairs for Methodist Hospital until his retirement.
His beloved Rosemarie died in 1997 after a protracted illness. In 2000 he married Janice Archerd (nee Snell), with whom he shared many interests. He developed a strong, loving bond with her family.
Larry’s passions included the U of MN Gophers, the Vikings, jazz, and especially his library of over 500 books. Larry will always be remembered for his loving devotion to family and friends. He continued to find time to volunteer and contribute to cherished charities into his later years.
Preceded in death by parents Waldo and Doris, wife Rosemarie, wife Janice, and many close cousins. He is survived by sons Brad and Scott Anderson, daughter Margaret Anderson, step-daughter Elizabeth Archerd and husband Richard Zajicek, step-grandson Michael Zajicek (Mary Beth Kehrwald), and all the cousins and their children who affectionately called him “Uncle Larry.”
