Leonard was married to Carol Ann Reetz on June 28, 1964; they were married for 53 years. They were members of Salem Covenant Church for 38 years.
Leonard served in the U.S. Army at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Leonard became interested in the trucking industry while driving truck for his brother, Donald. Upon returning from service he attended and graduated from Thermo King Technical School and earned several certifications in transport refrigeration, and air conditioning. After graduation he worked for Thermo King Sales and Service before taking a position as a mechanic for Gateway Foods. While at Gateway Foods he earned several ASE certifications. Leonard enjoyed fishing, hunting with family, friends and coworkers. Besides being a hands on person, who enjoyed woodworking and vehicle maintenance, he and Carol enjoyed traveling. They traveled to several states, and Germany, but their trip to Alaska was one of his favorites. One of Leonard’s highlights of the year was renting a lakeside cabin with his family for a week in the summer.
Upon retiring, Leonard was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and qualified for a lung transplant at the University of Colorado in 2007. He was very thankful for the lung transplant, but suffered from the side effects of his medications until his death.
