

Marian (Nelson) Copa was born to Rudolph and Truly (Pike) Nelson on September 18, 1937. She grew up on the family farm near London, MN. She attended Lyle High School. Following graduation she earned her education degree from Moorhead State College and later a master's degree from the University of Minnesota to begin a career of serving others. She taught elementary school in Fridley and Columbia Heights. Her gentle spirit, nurturing heart and unwavering patience made her a natural educator and joy to all who knew her. She was known to show genuine care for her students. She was most proud that all her first grade students were able to read by the end of the school year.
Marian married A. Kenneth Copa on January 28, 1961. Her most fulfilling undertaking was raising her four children, Alan, Thad, Karn and Kariann. Then came the special grandchildren and great grandchildren. The love of family was very important to her and the time spent with them was special.
Marian is survived by her husband, A. Kenneth Copa; her children, Alan (Michelle) Copa, Thad (Joan) Copa, Karn Copa and Kariann (Mike) Jennrich; six grandchildren, Jennifer Thornton (Nick), Ashley Vigen (Ben), Jonathan Copa, Alex Copa (Caitlin), Max Jennrich, and Molly Jennrich and four great grandchildren, Stone Thornton, Steele Thornton, Akayla Vigen and Addison Vigen; siblings, Ronald (Marilyn) Nelson and Larry (Paulette) Nelson.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Truly (Pike) Nelson and her brother, Walter Nelson.
Her unconditional love, laughter and resilience will be deeply missed, but forever remembered.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 4030 Jackson Street NE Columbia Heights on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
Private inurnment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Minneapolis.
