Matt spent much of his life working as a professional driver, a career that suited his hardworking nature and love of driving. Early in his career, he drove for Humm’s Liquor Store in Minneapolis and had a few stories from that job. He drove a school bus in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Suburban Bus, and later worked for Metro Mobility and SouthWest Metro Transit before going on to work for many years at the Star Tribune. Later he drove over the road for TransWood, meeting new people and visiting family when he could. In more recent years, Matt worked in a warehouse and drove truck for Kate-Lo Tile & Stone in Plymouth, where he continued doing the work he enjoyed and built friendships with those around him.
Matt was known for being laid back, friendly, and the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved being outside, hiking, fishing or biking when he could. When he was younger, he also enjoyed hockey and skiing. He had a lifelong love of classic rock and roll, especially music from bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Doors, which were often the soundtrack to his days. When Matt wasn’t working, he was spending time with family and friends.
Matt met his wife, Christine (Chris) Hall, in high school, they became good friends and later they built a life together. He is survived by Chris; his parents, George “Dick” and Margaret “Deedee” Hall; his sisters Charlotte (Danny) Lucey and Jane Hall (Nina Vukmanic); his children Rose Peters (Jeremy Gehm), Michael (Holly) Hall, and Elizabeth “Libby” (Tommy) Williams; his grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews. Matt was deeply grateful to have recently reconnected with his son, Aaron, and his family, after being apart for many years.
Matt will be remembered for his easygoing spirit, his love of music, and the way he could make anyone feel comfortable in conversation. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Kapala Glodek Funeral Home & Sunset Cemetery, 2250 St Anthony Boulevard NE, Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 11, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am.
