Misganaw Kebede Gizaw, a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, departed from us unexpectedly from health complications on February 16th, 2026 in Burnsville, Minnesota at the age of 44. Though his time with us feels far too short, the love, laughter, and light he brought into our lives will remain with us forever.
Born on August 2nd, 1981 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to his loving parents, Kebede Gizaw and Zewdinesh Tegegn. Misganaw carried with him a spirit that was joyous, kind, humble, and deeply compassionate. He immigrated to Minnesota with his family in 1997, where he attended Southwest High School in Minneapolis and later pursued an education in business at Hennepin Technical College.
Misganaw was always full of life; he had a natural gift of bringing people together through his contagious laugh, playful sense of humor, and warm smile. He was a proud father, a caring brother, a fun-loving uncle, and a loyal friend.
Misganaw is survived by his parents; his children, Nebyu, Liya, and Kaleb; the mother of his children, Nardos; his siblings, Bereket, Abiy, Hana, Kamlak, Zinash, and Beza; and by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless other relatives and friends who miss him dearly and will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
While we grieve this tremendous loss, we also celebrate a life that touched so many. May we honor Misganaw by loving one another more deeply, laughing more freely, and living with the same generosity of spirit that he showed to everyone.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who mourn this great loss and invite all who knew and loved Misganaw to honor his life and attend the funeral service on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home in Minneapolis at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
Burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis following the service on site. There will be a funeral reception held at 1935 University Ave W, St Paul, MN 55104 after the burial.
