After graduating from high school in 1953, Paul spent his career in the grocery industry, working as a meat cutter and later as a meat department manager. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and doing things the right way.
A country boy at heart, Paul grew up working on the farm, an experience that helped shape the hardworking, humble, and down-to-earth man he became. He was kind, soft-spoken, optimistic, and gentle, with a quiet way about him that made people feel comfortable and cared for. Family was at the center of his life, and some of his happiest times were spent simply being together.
Paul enjoyed fishing, spending time at the lake, watching sports, traveling, and especially going on Sunday drives with his beloved wife, Ruthie. He appreciated the simple pleasures in life and cherished the time he spent with the people he loved.
Paul was a devoted husband and loving father. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ruthie; his step-daughters, Wendy (David) Miskowiec, Theresa (Bill) Wilson, his children Cindy (Jeff) Lehn, Bruce Mattson, and David (Lorrie) Mattson; his grandchildren, Christopher (Maritza) Miskowiec, Leah (Daniel) Reimers, Thomas Miskowiec, Billy Wilson, Clara Wilson and Amanda Daniels; and his great-grandchildren, Ariana and Elijah Miskowiec and Daniel Reimers, Jr.
He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Pearson and Julie Scholl, and his brother, Jimmy Mattson.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Reynold and Ethel Mattson; his brother, Jack Mattson; and his son-in-law, Richard Saxe.
Paul leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry his love with them. His kindness, quiet strength, hardworking spirit, and love for his family will not be forgotten. He will be remembered most for the simple, meaningful moments he shared with those he loved—and for the warmth he brought simply by being there.
A private committal service has already been held for Paul.
