Paul Anthony Romans

June 19, 1940April 25, 2021

On Sunday, April 25th, 2021, Paul Anthony Romans, loving husband, father of two children, and grandfather of five grandsons, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 80. He was able to enjoy the day with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Paul was born on June 19th, 1940, in Des Moines, IA to Helen and Stanley Romans and was the youngest of seven siblings. He served in the armed forces Infantry Division from 1961 to 1967. Paul had a passion for politics. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree, with an emphasis in Political Science, from Drake University. He then began a career in Association Management which spanned three decades. He married Judith Ann LaZear on April 2, 1966. They raised two children, Heidi and David.

Paul was a devoted family man who was known for his quick wit, his kind-heartedness, and his adoration for his children and grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed a fiery political debate and was an avid reader. If he wasn’t reading, you could find him outside enjoying nature, planting flowers, mowing the lawn, hanging up a bird feeder, or grilling. He had an intense appreciation for good food, especially dessert. After retirement he became a substitute teacher and found much joy in helping develop young leaders. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Stanley; his mother, Helen; brothers, Oliver and Stanley; sister, Patricia; and his grandson, William Romans.

He is survived by his wife, Judith; his two children, Heidi Romans (Keith) Koland and Dr. David (Jaimi) Romans; and his five grandchildren, Parker, Kellen, Jamison, Liam, and Greyson; sisters, Gloria and Rosemary; and brother Michael.

Memorial Service will be Friday, May 28 at 10:30am with visitation 10-10:30 at Sunset Funeral Chapel, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd NE, Minneapolis. Interment at Sunset Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers it was Paul Romans’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the Lisa Treleven Presidential Scholarship Fund, Liberty Classical Academy, 3878 Highland Ave, White Bear Lake, MN 55110, or online via pay pal at

My sincere sympathy to the Romans family. I worked for Paul at IGS and also helped him develop a database for one of the associations he managed. He was always kind and had a wonderful sense of humor and I enjoyed working for him. I admired his ability to calm people down if tensions flared and valued his experience in running a non-profit. And I know how proud he was of all of you. May your good memories of Paul be of comfort now and in the days to come. Thinking of you...
