

Sharon passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Woodland Hill Independent Living Home in Hudson, WI. She was a four-year resident and was also a patient for each of those years at the Davita Dialysis Center which is attached to the Home.
Sharon was born on November 26, 1940, in St. Paul, the only child of Mabel and Chester Hovda. She attended St. Paul Murray High School and the Minnesota State University at Mankato where she majored in Physical Education. Sharon and John Haugo were married on June 8, 1961. They had four children: sons Mark, Scottsdale, AZ; Craig, Gilbert, AZ, who passed away in 2010; and Erik, St. Paul, MN; and daughter Kristin (Steve) Haugo-Jones, Little Falls, MN. She has eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The family lived at their home in New Brighton, MN for 27 years and prior to moving to Woodland Hill they lived at their home along the St. Croix River in Hudson for 26 years while also having a winter residence in Green Valley, AZ. Sharon was a full-time homemaker while her children were young. Later, she served as the office manager for Serving Software, Inc. for ten years where she was responsible for customer relations and employee communications.
Sharon was a skilled athlete who was selected as her high school’s representative on the St. Paul All-City GAA team. She was also a competitive golfer having won several local golf tournaments in New Brighton and Green Valley. While living in New Brighton Sharon sang in her church and community choirs. Through their family foundation she and John supported annual scholarships to college, seminary, and Tanzanian students and to organizations including the Haugo Bibliotek at Norway House, the Haugo Wellness Center at Eventide and the Haugo Boardroom at MSUM in Moorhead, and the Haugo STEM program at the University of Minnesota. While living in Hudson Sharon was a member of PEO, a women’s philanthropic organization which supports educational programs and scholarships.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 11:00 am at Bethel Lutheran Church-Highland Campus, Hudson, WI with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
Private burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
