It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Dan Dorling, at the age of 76, on February 23, 2026 at the Christine Morrison Hospice, Mission, British Columbia, after a long battle with a rare genetic neurological disorder.
Dan will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 32 years, Ruth, his younger sisters, Janice Schiller (Bob, predeceased), Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and Susan Miller (Robert), Markham, Ontario, sister-in-law Vicki Radford (Andrew,) Letchworth, UK and Ruth’s parents, Barbara Harris (Rowland, predeceased), Wales, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Noëlla and Stanley Dorling.
Dan left many wonderful memories in the hearts of his family & friends in Canada and the United Kingdom.
Since his Sheridan Tech school days, he had a love of motorcycles, from his first, a Yamaha, to his last, a Goldwing 1500 touring bike. He liked to be involved with the stage crew at his high school, doing the wiring for sound. At that time the local police cars were getting radios installed, this led to his job wiring police cars, which ignited his career choice, in policing.
Dan proudly served with the RCMP (6 years) and the Port Moody Police Department, BC (25 years).
He enjoyed being part of the communities he lived and worked in. Often volunteering or joining groups such as, the Lions Club, Boy Scouts of Canada Vancouver, Welsh Club, Masons, Blue Knights and the International Police Association.
Dan loved to dance, scuba dive and was an avid Sherlock Holmes fan, often seen wearing his deerstalker hat. He had a good sense of humour and an impish smile, and when he got that glint in his eye, you knew something was about to happen.
During Dan’s retirement years, he loved to ride his touring motorbike with Ruth or a group of his friends, and his adventurous spirit often took them off the beaten path to new experiences. His love of good food led him and Ruth to beautiful locations and great restaurants, in Canada and abroad. Dan had an incredible knowledge of local history and places, which he loved to share with visitors.
He had a soft heart toward animals and loved his pet bird and Siamese cats. He was eager to seek and share his Dorling ancestry in the United Kingdom and also travelled to follow roots in Wales, Ruth’s homeland.
