It is with sadness that the family of Hilda Finch announce that she passed away peacefully at Menno Hospital at the age of 97. Hilda was born in Akersloot, Netherlands, was the 8th born and the last surviving of her 12 siblings.
She was predeceased by her parents Johannes Kraakman and Alida Hollenberg along with her husband Bill.
Hilda is survived by her sister-in-law Catherine Kraakman, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends in Canada, Holland and New Zealand.
Hilda’s adventurous spirit brought her to Canada at the age of 29 for a visit, and she decided to stay. She obtained her LPN certification at St. Paul’s Hospital. She was passionate about her nursing career and worked at VGH and St. Vincent’s Hospitals for many years until her retirement in the late 1980’s.
After her retirement she relocated from living in White Rock to Dewdney. She continued to enjoy her interests of travel, gardening, reading, singing in the choir and involvement with the church.
Hilda always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she will sadly be missed.
A prayer service for Hilda will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mission, BC V2V 2B8.
A funeral mass will occur Friday, May 24, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Mission, BC V2V 2B8.
A graveside service will occur Friday, May 24, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Hatzic Cemetery, 34867 Cemetery Ave, Mission, BC V2V 6Y6.
Serving as pallbearers are Neil Kraakman, Bruce Kraakman, Mike Kraakman, Walter Kraakman, Joel Kraakman and Niko Kraakman.
