With sadness, the Kavanagh family announce Irene Rose Kavanagh, age 83, of Mission, British Columbia passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 at Mission Memorial Hospital, of kidney failure caused by multiple myeloma. She died pain free with dignity and surrounded by her loving family.
Irene was born in Regina, Saskatchewan April 10, 1941 to George and Teresa Lukovzski and grew up with her 11 brothers and sisters. She lived a life rich with adventure and love, guided by her faith in Jesus. The apostle Paul said: “… by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Gal. 5:13–14.) and love thy neighbour she did. She touched and impacted the lives of countless people and will be lovingly remembered.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Kimberley Kavanagh and Karen Coleman (Pat), and her five grandchildren, Claire, Neil, Aiden, Olive, and Elias. She is also survived by her sisters Tarn, Theresa, Joan, and Lorraine. She was predeceased by her husband, George Kavanagh, and her siblings Tibor, George, Jimmy, Ethel, Ronnie, Lillian, and Bobby.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 Friday June 21st at the Mission River Valley Church – 32729 7th Ave, Mission, BC.
A reception will be available afterwards from 12pm - 2pm at the Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home – 7386 Horne St, Mission, BC – with food and beverages provided.
If family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a local-to-you Food Bank, Women’s Shelter, or the Canadian Leprosy Mission.
A special thank you to the Mission Memorial Hospital staff for their undivided attention and remarkable care for Irene in her final days.
