Happy Birthday Uncle Irv! You are and will always be in my heart! You always sat so quietly while Mom and Auntie would be yabbering up a storm lol But you always had that sparkle in your eyes and a smile to go with it :) I wish we could have been around more as we grew older but I will always cherish every memory of when we did see you and Auntie. You were both my "second" parents and I knew if I ever needed you, you would be there. Thank you for letting me be "one of your kids" I loved all the times I got to be at your place...it was my home away from home! Love you forever and always Uncle xoxoxoxo

As a young teen and in a time when I need it most, Irvin had given me a power word 'No' and a follow up phrase ' I can and will do it'.  He believed in my ability to use the words.  It made me believe in myself. Those words gave me strength to face the twist and turns in my life.  Now at this time of grief and loss in his passing he has touched my heart with new power words 'treasured memories'.  to most Irvin would be referred to as my brother -in-law.  to me he was the chosen brother of my heart.  With much love and respect I thank him for being a very special person in my life.

I have prided myself with my ability to use words.  Imagine my surprise to find I am speechless.  The three weeks from diagnosis to Irv's passing has taken all our words.  As couples were so similar.  We shared a love for kids and family.  We were always welcome at your home as you were at ours.  Your passing Irv is deeply felt by myself and Roy. I remember Uncle Irv as the quiet uncle who sat back, watching all the crazy antics that our family performed at our family gatherings and I'm sure he was laughing inwardly.  My entire family sends along it's sincerest condolences during this extremely difficult time as our pain for the loss of my dad is still with us every day!  We love all of you. Irv for 63 years you were always there for me. You took such good care of me. Your love for me never faltered. You worked so hard to provide for me and our children and you never failed. You were a quiet man and we spent all of our time together. As the children grew and left home to start their own lives, we spent even more time just the two of us. We had so much fun driving the back roads and spending time in the Okanagan. Such wonderful memories I have of you but they will never take your place. I miss you more than words can tell. I can remember when I was very little, and I would try to get you to tickle me so that I could tell on you to grandma so that she would punish you by not feeding you dinner......you will be sorely missed, grandpa.

Uncle Irvin I can remember back as far as being a little girl and you and Auntie coming for visits. You were alway so gentle and kind. Always willing to lend a hand when one was needed. You have been such am ispiration to so many and you have touch the lives of your loved ones. You will never be forgotten. Thank you for being you. Dad, you were always my hero. The man who made things happen if we needed something. You were magic. Your gentle spirit and your strength are what I look for in a life partner. Uncle Irv, Your gentle spirit, your Loving words of encouragement, the Compassion you showed to everyone around you are just a few of the gifts that made you a Hero to those whose lives you touched on a daily basis. You were an amazing Husband, Father, Uncle, Friend, and Confidant. We will cherish all the memories that were made while you were with us knowing that you live on with us through those memories. I never got to meet Irvin Hammond directly, but I am fortunate to know his grand daughter Alison. She describes him with such love, her words radiating with the kindness and lessons he taught her. I feel like I am fortunate to have had his life touch mine via the love that endures in those he left behind. I am sure I must not be the only one. Goodness moves outward like ripples in the water, and his goodness ripples through those he loved. That is one of the greatest legacies any of us could wish for, and it is the legacy his friends and family will continue forth in his memory.

I only knew Irv for four months but it was easy to see why he was loved by his family. He was a great man indeed. Rest in peace dear Irv.

Dad, you were always a strong silent pillar in our family and at any family events. you loved to see everyone and I am so going to miss that twinkle in your eye or teasing me about being 'green Irish' when you were 'orange'.  You left as very silently with great dignity not making a scene..thank you for including me in your family for the last 30 years. Love you til the day I die.

Grandpa,  your strong, quiet, guiding presence will always be missed,  but we know you are watching over us in peace now.  Love you.
