John Fredrick Budd was born in 1927, in England. He was one of four siblings in that home.
After his elementary and secondary education, John acquired skills in woodworking and the building construction trades. As a teenager he became a born again Christian. In 1946 he migrated to Canada to study at. The Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta.
While studying at Prairie he determined that God was calling him to ministry.
After graduation he joined the Japan Evangelical Mission and soon went to Japan as a career missionary.
Not long after arriving in Japan he met another young missionary who was also a graduate of Prairie, whose name was Alvena Bauman. It wasn't long till they were engaged and then married to begin forty years of church planting, teaching, construction and other ministries in their adopted land of Japan. They have an adopted daughter, Faith.
After retirement in 1992, John and Alvena took up residence in Mission, BC where they have resided until now.
John was an active gardener and could often be seen distributing produce from his vegetable garden to his friends in the community.
A number of physical problems in recent years began to limit John's ability to be as active as he once was. In 1999 he had an aneurism which he survived after medical attention and a lengthy time in the hospital. In 2005 he suffered an attack of cancer on his esophagus. Although he also survived after extensive treatments, these events took a serious toll on his physical abilities
Just over a week ago on Dec 3rd he went to the local hospital with pains in his chest. It was determined that he had suffered a small heart attack and he was hospitalized. Seven days later after spending a nice day with Alvena and several other visitors he suffered a major heart attack and was ushered into the presence of the God whom he loved so much and served so faithfully.
To us as a family, John was an example of gentleness, kindness, goodness, and patience. He will be remembered for his devotion to His God, and to his wife Alvena. We thank God for every remembrance of this dear brother-in-law./*/ A memorial service will be held at the Seven Oaks Alliance church at 2575 Gladwin road in Abbotsford on January 5th 2011 at 2:00PM
Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home, Mission, BC.
