With sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret (Wilson) Thomas. Margaret was born on a farm “Gowkhall”, Newarthill, Scotland, June 16, 1925, and passed away peacefully January 11, 2021, age 95, in Mission, B.C., with family members at her side.
Growing up with one sister and five brothers, family was very important to Margaret. Described by one brother as “the Rose of Scotland”, she had a quick sense of humour and a beautiful smile.
Margaret married Ken Thomas in New Zealand October 21, 1955, and is survived by Ken and their four children: Bill (Wendy), Rosemary (Randy), Bruce (Mary) and Elizabeth, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Margaret was proud to have served for seven and a half years in the Women’s Land Army in Britain during the 2nd World War. Margaret was a longtime member of the I.O.F. Foresters and volunteered as the Sick Committee Chairman for 40 years. She was Charter President of the Foresters Gateway Toastmistress Club and organized an annual bus trip for shut-ins to the Peaceful Valley Day Lodge for many years.
In memory of Margaret, donations may be made to the Alberta Lung Association and Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
Cremation has taken place, with interment at a later date in the Edmonton Cemetery. Due to COVID restrictions, a memorial will be held at a future date.
