Val, I can't remember how or quite when we first became friends, it seems so long ago.  I do remember the many good times we had.  We seemed to always be volunteering one way or another, with the Mission Historical Society, The Agricultural Association, SPCA and Humane Society.  We helped build the Historical Society's Float for a Candlelight Parade and won Best Float honours;  we also followed a borse-drawn float in an Agricultural Parade, dressed as country hicks and scooping up horse poop along 7th Avenue.  When it came to the SPCA and the Humane Society we were always up to our eyes with cats, kittens, dogs and pups.  I have no idea which organization we were representing when we spent one New Years Eve in the sports center selling nachos at midnight and you got really ticked off because you had to pay for some for yourself!  Throughout it all we had a lot of laughs. One sunny Sunday afternoon, you once took me out to see where you grew up. I remember thinking what a beautiful place it was and how lucky you were to grow up in such a beautiful place.  You were a very good cook and hosted many memorable "orphan" dinners as you called them. We certainly laughed a lot.  When I was moving to Powell River and had to sell my place in Mission, you put together some exquisite hanging baskets for my house, in my favourite colours, because you said you wanted me to get the best price!  You had a passion for cars that I never understood and you also had a passion for going to Costco.  We would come back with my little old Ford truck loaded to the gunnels with flats of cat food.  We were both born in 1945, you in Canada, me in Britain and somehow our paths crossed in Mission.  Looking back, I am glad I know you, even though you frequently drove me up the wall.  However, anyone who really knows you knows that underneath that "Troll of Mission" exterior you had a heart of gold and you really did care about people.  When we last saw each other a couple of years ago, little did I know that would be the last time.  I just figured we would both continue on, getting older and weirder and I always thought I would see you again some time, BC Ferries willing, but that wasn't to be.  I am looking at the stuff others have written and it seems we all remember your whacky sense of humour.  I am glad our paths crossed and I am a firm believer that our paths will cross again, along with those of all the furry four legged friends we loved along the way. I miss knowing you are there in Mission but I guess I'll get used to the idea some day, and I'll miss those dreadful e-mails you would send now and then. However, one thing for sure, I won't forget you.  You are definitely one of a kind.  So, from one old whacky woman to another, ta ta for now. The dogs, cat, duck and emu also send their best. Oh, Val, we shared many cat tales together.  If you can find a minute or two, could you please find my kits and give them a hug and kiss or two for me.  You are such a wonderful heart.

Val had a sense of humor like no other. She loved animals, especially the feline species. She will be missed.
