Forever missed by her daughter, Tania Shap, grandchildren Stevie Spain and Kyle Spain of Mission BC. Predeceased by her big brother Allen Ireland, who she greatly admired, parents Stanley and Grace Ireland and her beloved Honey and Kittan.
Verna embraced the raw beauty of the natural world with childlike wonder. A creative gardener, she spent years transforming her backyard into a woodland sanctuary, carefully selecting native plants, winding pathways, and serene sitting areas. Her garden became her peaceful oasis in the heart of suburbia. For Verna, gardening was more than a hobby—it was a way to connect with nature and feel beauty.
Verna’s greatest love was always her family. In the 90s, she embraced becoming “Nama Kitties." She played an essential role in her grandchildren’s upbringing, filling their days with adventure, laughter, and warmth. Whether it was planning exciting outings, preparing delicious lunches, taking walks to the corner store for special treats, or picking out the perfect movie rental. She left her grandchildren feeling loved and special.
Verna will be remembered as an honest and generous soul, with a quick wit and sharp humor, a straight shooter with a pragmatic intellect, she never hesitated to speak the truth, yet her words were always rooted in kindness. She kept her circle small, valuing deep and meaningful connections, and if you were part of it, you knew you were truly cherished.
A listen to Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues offers a glimpse into Verna’s deep connection to her senses. The poetic lyrics, and emotional depth mirror the intensity with which she experienced the world around her, aligning with her ability to feel and perceive life on a profound level, making it a perfect reflection of her inner world.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kazami and Nurse Wendy for their incredible talents and kindness over the past 7 years.
